Come on you Lions!
On Sunday 19th May, St George's went to watch the basketball play-off finals at London's O2 arena.
It was a beautiful sunny day, when 17 children from years 5 and 6 went to London's O2 arena in Greenwich to watch the Basketball Play off Finals. Fun weekend trips like this meets our culture statement of
We are fun. We are together.
We took the short journey to North Greenwich by train and tube, then walked to the iconic O2. Once in the O2, you could sense the atmosphere building as the crowds started queuing to get into the area. Whilst queuing, the media were interviewing the public. Of course, St George's pupils were a highlight.
Once we got into the arena, we found our seats and got settled, ready to watch the first match of the day, which was the women's final - London Lions vs Newcastle Eagles.
The match was very exciting, with a great result for the Lions with a 92-65 win to take the trophy!
This was followed by some incredible entertainment, from cheerleading, basketball freestylers to a dunking competition.
This inspired our pupils to practice their basketball tricks in the playground.
We then went on to watch the men's final, which was London Lions vs Cheshire Pheonix. This was an incredibly close game, which created an incredible atmosphere. St George's really came to live to support the London Lions. But, London Lions came away with a fantastic 88-85 victory!
It was great to see professional sports men and women compete at such high standards and being respectful and showing great sportsmanship, which is what we (at St George's) do.
Be passionate.
Be respectful.
Be determined.
We would like to thank: Miss Michell, Miss McGahan and Aiden for taking the children to this fantastic event. We look forward to going again next year!
