Players ready? ... and play!
Alex Heath, Old College Lawn Tennis Club's Head coach, came to teach year 4 and 5 tennis.
I am delighted to say, that our relationship with Old College Lawn Tennis Club has continued this year. Once again Alex Heath (who is the Head Coach) came to St George's Primary School on Monday 10th June to deliver a fun, one-off tennis session for years 4 and 5 separately.
There was a break in the rain, where year 4 (then year 5) came out for a one-off, 1-hour tennis session. Children were put through their paces and needed to show a great attitude and skills towards the game. This links to our P.E values of:
Be passionate.
Be respectful.
Be determined.
From this, Alex had the really hard decision of picking 4 children from each class to go to a week of tennis summer camps at Old College in the summer holidays.
To begin each session, children took part in a fun warm-up activity followed by tennis racket ball skills. All the children tried each skill and even tested Alex with their own skills.
We then went into some rallies, where children had to work collaboratively and try and get the highest score. Alex was so impressed with the skills children had learnt from the tennis unit and how well they could rally with each other.
They then went into a more competitive game, where they had to rally with each other, but then win the rally. Children then won that many points. With some of the rallies going on for such a long time, children were scoring incredibly high numbers. To complete the session, the whole class came together for a classic tennis of 'bonus ball'.
We would like to thank Alex Heath for giving up his Monday morning to come to St George's and delivering a fun, high-quality tennis session. We would also like to thank Old College Lawn Tennis club for this incredible opportunity. Have a look at the future newletters to see who attended the camps and how they got on.
If you would like your child to take part in tennis lessons, please speak to Miss Michell or directly to Alex Heath who can be found at: https://www.oldcollege.co.uk/coaching/
