School Games - GOLD!
For the academic year of 2023/2024, we achieved GOLD for the School Games Mark.
It was yet another successful year for P.E at St George's. For the fourth year in a row, we achieved the Gold badge for the School Games mark.
Be passionate.
Be respectful.
Be determined.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible.
At St George's, we know how important it is that everyone can be successful and everyone should have a positive experience in sports. To accommodate this, we value pupil voice.
Every term the P.E lead would listen to what the pupils want and adapted accordingly. This helped us decide on what extra-curricular activities we offer and in turn we saw a high uptake. The P.E lead continued to work with with children in Years 5 and 6, who became successful 'Little Leaders'. The leaders would help run activities weekly in a Fit4Life club and then a fun multi-skills event for EYFS and KS1 at the end of the year.
Over the year, we also continued with our competitive sports -both intra and inter competitions. It was great to see children participate in sports that they had not done before and found a new love. It was also our first year for a dance showcase. This was a great addition to our yearly calendar.
For children to be able to access these different sports, it is important to have a curriculum which offers a wide variety. To support our curriculum, we use support from the P.E hub, which allows for high quality P.E lessons with progression from year to year.
To meet the 60-active minutes, every child takes part in the daily mile and then there are multiple active brain breaks within lessons. We feel it is important for these active breaks as it helps with both mental and physical health. As a school who takes part in the daily mile, we have continued to participate in the Vitality Mile.
At St George's, we know how important it is to work with the community. We have developed our sports links and have children taking part in many sports outside of school.
We look forward to continuing to develop P.E at St George's and going for the Platinum award next year.
