It is a new year, a new term and, of course, a brand-new art topic. To kick off year 4, we are focusing on drawing and painting. This is building on lots of skills the children have already learnt in previous years. 

As ever, Year 4 has been living out our curriculum vision for Art and Design:

Be creative.

Be proficient.

Be reflective. 

To begin with, we looked at our key artist, Frank Auerbach, and his drawings. We focused on his use of lines and how he drew the outlines of the shapes. We then put this into practice. To start with, we had different objects and then, using a view finder, focus on the outline of the shape. After we had done the outline, we then went over it in charcoal. 

To continue the theme of using mixed media, we then added pastels and experimented with colours and marks. 

To finish, we then added a colour wash to the background. 

We look forward to continuing learning about drawing and painting.
