Let's Dig Up Some History

On Thursday 21st November, Year 4 went to the British Museum.

On Thursday 21st November 2024, Year 4 took the short trip across London to go to the British Museum. Last term, year 4 were learning all about Ancient Britain's settlement, especially looking at the Anglo-Saxons. This was a perfect opportunity to go and see some artefacts from that time. This works in with our curriculum vision statement for history:

Be inspired.

Be academic.

Be reasoned.

To begin the trip, all children were put into pairs and were given challenges finding different artefacts in different cases. Children discussed what they were and what they were used for. All the children showed great curiosity and asked many in-depth questions during the whole visit. They were especially amazed about the ages of the artefacts and the designs seen on many. We had great fun looking at the different pots and the amazing patterns used. But, the most interesting for many, were the variety of swords and different weapons used, especially during invasion times.

After lunch, we had some more time to look around different rooms. All children voted on the Ancient Egyptian rooms. This is great as at the end of the Year, children will be learning all about Ancient Egypt. It was amazing to see the different tombs and especially the mummies.

This has inspired so many to learn more about Ancient Britain and it has also given them a start to our Ancient Egyptian topic.
