Flash Bang Wallop!

Year 4 had a curiously fantastic trip to the Science Museum on Monday 27th January.

On Monday 27th January, Year 4 had an unforgettable day at the Science Museum, expanding their knowledge of States of Matter and exploring the wonders of science in an interactive and exciting way. Our school’s science vision:

Be academic.

Be curious.

Be practical.

was truly brought to life during this inspiring trip!

Our adventure began with a tour around the museum, where the children engaged with fascinating exhibits, learning how science plays a role in everyday life. A highlight of the morning was visiting the Space Exhibition, where we discovered how astronauts survive in space and the different states of matter found beyond our planet. We even saw real-life space suits and models of spacecraft, sparking our imaginations about the mysteries of the universe.

Next, we ventured into the Flight Area, where the children explored the science behind aerodynamics and how planes stay in the air. They were amazed to see historical aircraft and interactive displays that demonstrated the principles of lift, thrust, and gravity.

One of the most thrilling moments of the day was attending the Flash, Bang, Wallop! show. This live science demonstration was packed with fire, explosions, and loud bangs! The children were on the edge of their seats as they watched spectacular experiments unfold before their eyes. One lucky Year 4 pupil even had the chance to be the scientist’s assistant, helping to create an exciting chemical reaction—an experience they will never forget!

After lunch, we headed to the Wonder Lab, a hands-on science playground filled with interactive experiments. From exploring forces and electricity to investigating light and sound, the children had the freedom to test, observe, and discover science in action. The enthusiasm was infectious as they experimented with different stations, bringing their learning to life in a fun and engaging way. Of course, the friction slide was the most exciting, with children testing out friction by seeing how fast they flew down the different slides with different surfaces.

We look forward t more hands on learning in science and future trips.
