Happy Lunar New Year!
This week Nursery have been very busy learning about Lunar New Year. and living out our Early Years Vision - Be an Explorer. Be a Trier. Be a Talker. Be a Creator.
Lunar New Year is celebrated in many countries, and in the nursery we have explored how this festival is celebrated by many in the Chinese community all around the world.
The children were very creative making red Chinese lanterns, as red is considered a lucky colour in China. We also created dragon masks to use in our very own Dragon Dance, as this is an important part of the festival. We loved the story of 'Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon', about a little girl who created her very own dragon for the Dragon Dance.
We tried our very hardest to use chopsticks, just like the little boy in our story 'Cleversticks'. The children were very patient and careful, just as they were when cutting and painting in our creative activities.
We also tried out different foods at our very own Lunar New Year feast - we loved talking about our favourites! We had noodles and rice, and also rice crackers. We didn't have any baos, unlike Amy Wu in the story 'Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao' - but somebody did bring a very yummy bao to nursery for their packed lunch!
