Art in 3 dimensions!

This week, Shackleton Class kicked off our new art topic: 3D Design and vibrant bowls.
This week, Shackleton Class kicked off our new art topic: 3D Design!
To start, we took a trip down memory lane and reviewed our previous learning about the colour wheel, reminding ourselves about primary, secondary, and complementary colours.
But we didn’t stop there! We also discovered something new: analogous colours. These are colours that sit next to each other on the wheel and blend beautifully together. We compared them with complementary colours and looked at examples to see how artists use them in their work.
Then came the hands-on part, our 3D art project! Using a bowl wrapped in plastic film as an armature, we built up layers of tissue paper and watered-down PVA glue to create a stunning translucent form.
The challenge? Choosing three analogous colours to work with and applying the tissue carefully to avoid wrinkles (easier said than done!). After several layers, we sealed it all with a final coat of PVA and left it to dry. The big reveal was the most exciting part. Carefully peeling the finished piece away from the armature to reveal our delicate 3D creations!
Throughout the lesson, we embraced our art curriculum vision:
'Be creative. Be proficient. Be reflective'.
We experimented with colours, mastered a new technique, and thought about what worked well and what we could improve next time.
