Suspense and Tension!
Year 6 have been creating suspense and tension in their writing about a World Cup penalty!
This week in Year 6, we have been inspired by the highs and lows of tournament football. With the World Cup on and inspiring the young footballers, we decided to help it inspire our writing.
We have endeavoured to create a mini-autobiographical moment, where the children took a penalty in the World Cup Final. We looked at some quality modelled examples from a 'greater depth' writing example. We found that we needed to use short sentences, figurative language, expanded noun phrases with emotional language to do this.
We watched some historic examples of tense penalty moments in previous tournaments or matches from the Women and Men's games. We then took this outside and had our own penalty tournament to get the children feeling the suspense and pressure of the situation.
We did this through the English Vision:
Be a reader. Be a writer. Be a communicator.
Enjoy some of our examples and us taking those painful penalties!
