World Book Day!
Everyone at St George's enjoyed World Book Day this week!
Much book-related fun was had this week by all classes during World Book Day! It was definitely a day when we were fun and together, in line with our culture statement.
It goes without saying that there were some amazing costumes, both amongst children and staff. We had our very own Greta Thungberg, the whole cast of Harry Potter and a few Matildas! Check out Jacob in Y5's impressive 'space boy' costume, which even got a mention on David Walliam's social media - well done Jacob!
At St George's, World Book Day is about more than dressing up. Our English vision is:
Be a reader.
Be a writer.
Be a communicator.
During worship, every class was introduced to the picture book 'Journey' by Aaron Becker. This wordless book features amazing illustrations, allowing children to really use their imaginations! Back in class, all children were being writers with the younger children writing setting descriptions and KS2 writing recounts of parts of the story. Look out for a future news story featuring examples of the impressive writing outcomes!
As well as the writing focus, classes paired up for some reading for pleasure and used the school library to enjoy some relaxing reading. Have a look at children being readers in the photos below.
Thank you for all the efforts put into costumes and well done to all the children for their awesome writing!
