High 5 Wimbledon!

On Thursday 4th July, 8 children went to Wimbledon to watch the tennis!

With the only full day of glorious sunshine for the week, we knew we were in for a treat. What a fantastic day it was. Once again, we were lucky enough to get Wimbledon tickets in the ballot for Thursday 4th July 2024. This year, for Court 2. To begin the day, we got the train to Wimbledon and as soon as we got to the station, you could feel the 'Wimbledon Buzz' all around.

This meets our culture statement of:

We are fun.

On arrival, we had a short walk around the courts before going to the match on Court 2, which the children were very excited about. It didn't take long for the group to be divided in who they were supporting - some for the Polish player, Hubert Hurkacz, and others for the French player, Arthur Fils. In an incredibly close and exciting match, Fils came through as the winner.

We even found Coach Luke and helped him with the scoring.

It was great for the children to see the sporting values, which we also pride ourselves on:

Be passionate.

Be respectful.

Be determined.

We then had a look around the outside courts, and of course, we had to visit the famous 'Henman Hill'.

Whilst walking around the courts, our St George's pupils were great ambassadors to the school and mentioned as the 'most friendly children at the Championships' with all the High5's they gave everyone.

We were then lucky enough to see women's 10th seed, Ons Jabeur, then beat American player, Robin Montgomery.

We then had great fun looking around the Wimbledon Museum, as well as playing lots of fun interactive games.

Great teamwork to get a high score in the reaction test. I am sure it does count!

Getting up close with the trophies ...

Getting some autographs from Danielle Collins and Dalma Galfi ...

Of course we also had to finish the day off with some very tasty ice-cream!

We would like to thank the LTA and Wimbledon for this incredible opportunity. We look forward to next year, with the potential of going again.
