Let's rock and roll!

In year 3, we have been learning all about rocks!

Our curriculum vision statement for Science is:

Be academic.

Be curious.

Be practical.

This week we have been academic, using research to help us define three types of rocks, and where and how they are formed. We identified that igneous rocks are made from liquid which cools and solidifies.

Sedimentary rocks are formed from tiny grains or pebbles, which have been squashed together, and metamorphic rocks are changed by heat and pressure.

We also got the chance to be practical. We looked at a variety of rock samples, and identified which rock type it was, based on the features we had been learning about.

Did you know bricks are not rocks? Have you heard that granite is one of the hardest igneous rocks? Our curious Year 3s do now!
