Rolling Rhythms, Ripping through the Room!

In Year 4, we have been practising making rhythms in our music lessons.

Our first music topic this year is, 'Untuned Percussion'. To begin with, we learnt about the Bhangra music style, which is an example of fusion music as it combines traditional Indian music with western influences. We listened and responded to a famous piece of music by the Bhujhangy Group and focused on different instruments they used.

From this, we focused on different rhythms and learnt about a chal rhythm, which is a repeated rhythm based on the dol drum. We followed their rhythm and practised using claps to represent the drum.

Be inspired.

Be creative.

Be dynamic.

After plenty of practice, we then made up our own 4 beat rhythms. We then go into groups and combine our rhythms to make one 4 by 4 beat rhythm. To begin with, we clapped the beats to make sure everyone was in time. We then used the drums to 'beat' the rhythms and learnt how to work in a group to ensure everyone was in time.

We then moved onto the drums and worked in our groups to make sure we were hitting the beats on the right notes and in time with each other.

We have now mastered the first 2 bars and look forward to continuing and creating a whole piece to perform by the end of the half-term.
