A mile a day, keeps the stress away!
Over Autumn 1 term, St George's have been taking part in the Daily Mile and trying to run the quickest mile possible!
We know how important it is to be healthy, both mentally and physically. This is why St George's has been taking part in the Daily Mile since it began and we are proud to be one of the 8550 schools who take part daily.
Doing the Daily Mile is also a significant part of the 60 active minutes required as a member of School Games. This year, we have started a new way to complete our Daily Mile.
To begin with, the P.E leader led an assembly reminding everyone of the importance of the Daily Mile. We looked at both the physical and mental benefits of running a mile each day. Children then continued doing the mile with great determination for themselves. This is in line with our P.E values:
Be passionate.
Be respectful.
Be determined.
Key Stage 1
In Key Stage 1, they are looking to complete as many laps as possible in 15 minutes. These laps are recorded and then, at the end of the half-term, each child is awarded a certificate with their results.

Key Stage 2
In Key Stage 2, the children ran a mile in the first week of the year in September and the teachers timed each child. Over the half-term, children ran every day, trying to improve their running stamina. Then, at the end of the half-term, they ran again and got timed again. Their aim was to beat their original time and get a personal best. Have a look at how many achieved a new personal best. It is amazing to see so many children running under a mile in under 10 minutes now.
