Street Food Stars!
Best Class have been looking into changing habits by eating healthier street food!
This half-term for design and technology, we have been focused on 'Food and Nutrition'. We looked at Chef Tom Kitchen and his effect on the food industry.
We focused on street foods and snacking this half-term. We thought about the types of snacks we have and the health benefits or negatives these have on our body.
We then looked at Mexico and the famous burrito. In modern times, this has become increasingly unhealthy. We have made our burritos using a range of healthy and nutritious foods.
Our task was to make healthy burritos a common snack in Mexico, but also enjoyed by many in the UK. We re-learnt different knife skills and techniques for chopping to the desired size and shape, like the claw and bridge techniques. We grated and seized before compiling our end product. A lot of us enjoyed these, we wanted to add a sauce to it to improve them in the future.
We also had the task of making the Indian street food, the Samosa! We looked at how we could make it healthier, keeping it vegetarian and baking it in the oven. We also used filo pastry, which is the healthier option than the ones that are available in recipes.
We did this all using our curriculum vision for design and technology:
Be innovative.
Be hands-on.
Be diagnostic.
