Anti-Bullying Week 2024
This week was Anti-Bullying Week.
At St George's, our subject vision for RSHE is:
Be healthy. Be safe. Be resilient.
Weeks like Anti-Bullying Week give us the opportunity to learn how we can stay physically and mentally healthy and stay safe, as well as supporting others to do so too.
On Monday, St George’s Pupil Leadership Team led an assembly.
The theme this year was “Choose Respect”. The Pupil Leaders reinforced the message, “Imagine a world where respect and kindness thrives — it’s not just a dream, it’s in the choices we make.”
This theme works very well for us at St George’s because ‘respect’ is a word we use often with the children. The word ‘respect’ is also in our behaviour blueprint: Be ready. Be respectful. Be safe.
Throughout the country, Anti-Bullying Week aims to empower children and young people to not resort to bullying online and offline, even when we disagree.
At St George's, we are proud to support Anti-Bullying Week. Across this week, our children participated in a range of activities school-wide to raise awareness.
Year 1
On Tuesday we wore different coloured socks to celebrate “Odd Socks Day" to celebrate our differences. Year 1 discussed joining together to show that it's important to be ourselves, celebrate uniqueness and to stand up against bullying. Together we can make a difference.
Year 4
In Year 4, pupils worked together to address potential challenges in the playground. They then acted out the scenarios, demonstrating how to work together to resolve conflicts effectively. At St George's, we want playtime to be a happy and positive experience for everyone.
Year 5
As part of Anti-Bullying Week, Year 5 explored the theme of respect and the various ways we can show it to others. Pupils first participated in small group discussions to share their thoughts and experiences, which were then brought together in a wider class conversation. The lesson concluded with each student signing a "Respect Pledge" form, reinforcing their commitment to treating others with kindness and understanding.
Year 6
Year 6 engaged in a meaningful discussion about the importance of choosing respect. To creatively reinforce this message, they worked together to spell out the word RESPECT using their bodies!
