World Book Day!

St George’s Celebrates a Magical World Book Day!
St George’s Primary School was transformed into a world of imagination and adventure as pupils and staff celebrated World Book Day in style! Excited children arrived at school dressed as their favourite literary characters, filling the hallways with wizards, fairies, superheroes, and classic book heroes.
“I loved dressing up as Violet because she’s a great character!” said Amiyah, Year 3.
The day was packed with exciting activities, starting with paired reading, where older pupils teamed up with younger children to share their favourite stories. It was a wonderful way for students to bond overbooks and inspire a love of reading.
"I enjoyed taking leadership and reading to 3-year-2 children as a group." - Osazuwa, Year 5.
Classes also enjoyed a visit to the school library, where they chose new books to borrow and listened to a captivating story read by their teachers.
“It was so much fun picking a new book! I can’t wait to take mine home and read it tonight,” said Fawaz, Year 2.
One of the highlights of the week was a visit from local storyteller, Amari, who mesmerised the children with a thrilling performance of ‘The Magical Mythic Hunter’. Through interactive workshops, pupils learnt how to craft their own exciting myths and legends, bringing their ideas to life through storytelling and drama.
“Amari’s story was amazing! I loved acting out parts of the story and making up my own,” said Valentina, Year 4.
As a whole school, we also engaged with the book Looking for Atlantis by Colin Thompson. Each class connected their reading to their writing and wrote about a key moment in the story suited to their age level. This activity encourages children to deepen their understanding of the story and express their creativity through writing.
“I really liked writing about 'Looking for Atlantis' because it was a fantasy-style book with interesting pictures we could use to form our writing,” said Arianna, Year 6.
To round off the celebrations, pupils were thrilled to receive their World Book Day tokens, which they used to choose a brand-new book to take home and enjoy.
“I can’t wait to start reading my new book! "It's going to be great for when I get home,” said Evie-Mae, Year 1.
The day was a huge success, with pupils leaving school inspired and excited about books. St George’s is already looking forward to next year’s World Book Day, eager for another adventure into the magical world of reading!
