Going the Extra Mile!

The conclusion of the Daily Mile for Spring term 2025!
At St George’s, we believe in the power of movement and the importance of staying active. As part of our commitment to achieving at least 60 active minutes every day, our pupils take part in the Daily Mile, a fantastic initiative that encourages regular exercise, builds fitness, and promotes well-being.
Running a mile each day brings numerous benefits to our students. Physically, it improves cardiovascular health, builds stamina, and strengthens muscles. Mentally, it provides a valuable brain break, allowing children to return to their lessons feeling refreshed and ready to learn. Socially, it fosters friendships as pupils run together, supporting and encouraging one another along the way. Most importantly, it promotes positive mental health, helping children develop resilience and confidence in their own abilities.
At the end of each term, we celebrate our pupils’ hard work and dedication by timing every child as they complete their mile. The top three runners from Year 3 and the top three runners from Years 5 and 6 were awarded medals for their outstanding performances. These medals were proudly presented during assembly, where we celebrated their achievements together as a school community.
Year 3/4 Winners
Year 5/6 Winners
In addition to the medals, we were thrilled to see so many children improve their times and achieve personal bests! Every child who beat their previous time received a certificate in recognition of their determination and commitment to self-improvement—because at St George’s, we are always striving to be great!
Personal Best
Through our Daily Mile challenge, our pupils embody the key PE values that we cherish:
Be passionate.
Be respectful.
Be determined.
Whether running for fun, aiming for a personal best, or supporting a friend, every child at St George’s is proving that with perseverance and a positive mindset, they can go the extra mile—both on the track and in life!
